God is big

I spent some time yesterday morning seeking God about several things - leadership issues, upcoming message series, and in general the future of our church.

The overall impression I came away with is this - that God is a big God.  Because He's a big God, He has big plans for you, and for me, and for Connection Church.  He wants to win the world to Him - and He wants to use Connection Church as a part of accomplishing that plan.

For us, that means we dream big.  Period.

Let's not settle for pint-sized dreams when we have a 50-gallon drum God.

The biggest challenge we will face over the coming days is the tendency to dream too small.  I'm intent on helping us dream big dreams for this church.  You need to be doing the same thing in the church, in your ministry area, and frankly, in your lives as well. 

Let's commit to be people who never limit what God can do!

A Perfect Season

Our men's church basketball team just finished up a perfect season!

I'm not kidding.

We were 0 and something...

Despite the losses, we had a great time.  And I learned some things about the men in our church --

1.  We have some great guys around this church.  Guys who are just fun to hang out with.   Except the time Bill pulled an 18 yr old kid's arm off and tried to beat him with it...but you'll have to ask him about that.

2.   We have fun together.  I don't know that any team laughed (at themselves or otherwise) more than our team did this season.

3.  Our guys are great at reaching out.  About half our team was from guys outside of the church this year.  It's all about building relationships.

4.  We are in desperate need of some scorers.  Enough said.

5.  Most of the losing can and should be blamed on the coaching.  Like Roy Williams of the UNC Tarheels always says, "When they win it's the players.  When they lose it's the coaching."  I've been saying that all season.  It's the only thing Roy and I have in common.  (Coach's note to self: increase ministry activity with Davidson College Basketball program next year)

On a slightly related note - since the title of this post is "Perfect Season", you should know that the title of this weekend's message in the God Love Sex series is "Perfect Seasoning" - as we talk about what it takes to prepare ourselves for the lifelong relationship of marriage.  Be there, you won't be disappointed. 

A blessed man

Just got to tell you - I am a very BLESSED man to have the wife that I have!  She is awesome, and I am continually amazed that God would see fit to give her to me.  She is my best friend, but so much more than that.  There is no way that anyone in my family would be where they are without her - including, and especially, me.  It's amazing how similar we are - all I can say is that God knew what He was doing when He put us together. 

So - this is a shout out to Susan - you are the best and I thank God every day for you!

And guys, I just have to say - (and I can only hope you feel this way about your wife too) - my wife is HOT!!!!

Easter!!

Hey guys - I am so stoked about this Sunday!!  We are going to celebrate the fact that Jesus died, rose again, and lives - we do that every week, but since this is Easter Sunday, we are going to blow the doors off of the place even more than normal.

This is one of those weeks that you are going to be hating it if you don't have someone with you.

One word of caution - make sure you get there early.  You are NOT going to want to miss the first song...

Isn't it cool that we have a God that loves us so much that He pursued US??  that He put down His power, stepped off of His throne, and came to us.  Well - that's just a hint of what we're talking about Sunday!
