Better Then Than We Are Now

Related to that last quote in the post below - our goal is to reach out to our world. Yes, that means the entire world - but also it means the Connection Church "world". What is our world? The Lake Norman/north Charlotte area. As the church we are called and gifted to reach out to everyone around us, in our world, with the love and power of Christ. We need to sense and feel the urgency that comes with this.

The cool thing about this quote, though, and how it relates to church - is that I know that Connection Church will always get better and better. We will be a better church 2 years from now than we are right now. We will be better at what we do on Sundays, better at Connection Groups, better at penetrating the community, better at meeting physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the hurting around us. Our goal is to get better in every area. So I know that someone who visits our church in 5 years will get possibly a better experience than they do now.

Here's what this should NOT do - it should not cause us to diminish the role of evangelism! It is critical that we reach people, that is our mission.

What is SHOULD do is help you commit to being in it for the long haul with people. Invest and Invite is about investing in someone for the long term. This is a marathon, remember - not a sprint. It may take someone 5 years to respond to an invitation to come to church. Keep it up - be persistent. Don't give up. Everything is riding on this.

And the great news is - whenever your friend decides they need to come - we'll be better then than we are now!

Great Quote

I just read this quote in a terrific little book called The Dip by Seth Godin. It's from one of the co-founders of Google, Sergey Brin. Here's what he says:

"We knew that Google was going to get better every single day as we worked on it, and we knew that sooner or later, everyone was going to try it. So our feeling was that the later you tried it, the better it was for us because we'd make a better impression with better technology. So we were never in a big hurry to get you to use it today. Tomorrow would be better."

More to come on what this means for the church...I'll have to think that through some. The other side for us is the urgency to share the gospel with as many as possible. But there is something here I need to digest, as it relates to taking our time and improving every week - with the idea that we are only getting better from here.
